Hello

Director: K. Selvabharati

Cast: Prashant, Preeti, Sujitha, Manivannan, Ranjit, Suresh, Kaka Radhakrishnan, Charlie, Ilavarasi.

Prashant is a youth who is in love with the idea of ‘being in love’. Unfortunately he does not know how to go about finding a girl to fall in love with. His ‘Hello’ to each passing girl (the director has justified his title here!) gets him no positive response. And when his friends (Charlie, Vyapuri) flaunt their girl friends in front of him, Prashant not to be outdone points out to a girl he sees in a temple. ‘That’s my girl’, he says. The friends are impressed and each time they force him to call her up, he rings up his employer (Manivannan) and whispers sweet-nothings to him, leaving the poor guy puzzled. Some humour is generated here, these being some of the better moments in the film.

Then the narration moves to the next part. To push his narration forward, the director forces in a lot of accidental encounters and co-incidences that brings the hero and the heroine to the same places at the same time. This game-play creates havoc in the girl’s life, when her intended bride-groom (Suresh) learning of a lover in her life, walks out on her. The girl attempts suicide and Prashant enters her life as her saviour. Of course, she soon realises who he is, forgives him, the hurdles are crossed and the duo re-unite.

Preeti (the model who paired with Abbas in Rajashri’s Hindi video-album) makes her debut. The director has not strained her much. But it’s Sujitha, child artiste turned popular T.V. actress, who makes an impact. Prashant with his newfound maturity, comes out well in the final emotional scene where he apologies to Preeti for his thoughtless act.

Deva’s tune for ‘Slam Gulami…’ sounds good enough. If only one wasn’t reminded of an old song sung by yesteryears comedian Chandrababu.
